We shoot and released this video May 2014, but it is easy to see how relevant it still is today… maybe more than ever.
THIS MONTH: MONDAY GETS ACCEPTING
The idea of accepting something or someone is so simple, yet complex. There is something about it rooted in the understanding that we don’t all need to be the same, nor should we try or want to; but we can still accept each other. This is a beautiful start, but it still falls short, because it can’t be without a moral compass and a belief in objective truth. Just look at the political divide, the racial divide, the pandemic divide. One person believes the sky is blue, while the other person says it’s orange. Who’s right? If you ask them, they both are… so let’s accept it. But being accepting is not condoning a blank check for falsehoods. For the same sky can’t be both blue and orange at the same time. There must be some set of standards, a moral compass, or a universal truth that establishes right from wrong, fact from fiction. From this place of authenticity, we can begin to move beyond acceptance and towards a place of celebration. But we can’t get there if we are not living in truth and embracing a shared belief that there is a right way to live and to treat one another, based in compassion, respect, and care. This is about getting to a place that is actually right for everyone because we shouldn’t accept anything short of that. So get ready to dig in this month. It’s time to shake things up, do some soul searching, and have real conversations. Being accepting matters.
