THIS WEEK: KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE

On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. shared his dream and placed it on our hearts. And although the “I have a dream…” statements towards the end of his speech get the most attention, it is the middle of his timeless speech that might mean the most in a moment like today. “Now is the time to make real promises of democracy.” “Now is the time to rise from the dark… to lift our nation from the quicksand of racial injustices.” “It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment.” “There will be neither rest nor tranquility in American until…” So, here we are again, nearly 60 years later. Will this be the time or will we let it slip away? We think it is time to KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE and, as MLK stated, “To refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt.” So what’s next? The movement is in full swing. It feels as though change has never been closer. But this also raises the stakes; for if nothing happens now… no real change get made… the fall will be even harder. We all owe it to ourselves and to one another to continue to get better. To make sure that the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence apply to all Americans. That each one of us is truly guaranteed the “unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” That “Justice for all” includes “all.” So what will you do to help make this a reality? Keeping the dream alive, matters, so that one day it is no longer only a dream.
