We have a problem. A big, and yet silent one. It happens slowly, in small increments, hardly noticed until it builds up to a crescendo. It’s called “Litter.” Here are a few “not-so-fun” proof points for you. Did you know that 75% of people have admitted to littering in the past five years? That 9 billion tons of litter gets dumped into our oceans every year? That $11.5 billion is spent on picking up litter every year? Fun, right? Well, not so much. We hope you agree with us, that enough is enough. It’s time to stop this silent killer in its tracks. This week, we want you to LEAVE IT CLEANER. The first step is as clear and obvious as it gets: don’t litter. Yes, this includes your cigarette butt, that piece of gum you are tired of chewing, and that empty paper coffee cup with the paper sleeve. Once we have that under control, then we can move on to step two: the joy of leaving it cleaner. When you see a piece of litter on the ground, pick it up and throw it away. Just stepping over it doesn’t help. Yes, we know you weren’t the one to litter in the first place. But once that piece of trash hit the ground, it became “ours.” Our litter. So, let’s own it and clean up our beautiful planet. Because leaving it cleaner matters.
