Sometimes nothing can tell a story more than the cold hard facts. And, even though, we try to not get too stats heavy, this week, we kind of just have to. America generates over 250 million tons of trash per year. Yes, that is “millions” and that is “tons.” That is an average of 4.38 pounds per person per day. Yikes. Not to be too much of a downer, we actually recycle and compost about one-third this waste, but we can’t ignore the fact that we still have a bit of work to do. So, this week, we want you to WASTE NO MORE. How? First, we need to understand some of the more popular waste items and reduce our “wasting” of them. Once we have reduced, we can then look to see how we handle our remaining waste. Are we recycling it? Are we disposing of it properly? Are we composting? It’s really that simple. Can you get your personal daily average down to 3.38 pounds? Can you cut it in half? We think we all can. After all, 250 million tons is actually 500 hundred trillion pounds. So, cutting it in half is a big number… achieved one person, one pound at a time. Easy. Waste does not matter.
